Phones, contracts and appliances in one hub
When South Africans type "electronics catalogue" into a search box, what they often want is a phone deal or a fridge. This hub reflects that mix honestly: five of the seven names here are mobile networks or a network retailer (Cell C, Cellucity, MTN, Telkom and Vodacom), while HiFi Corp and Hirsch's are the two traditional retailers of televisions, appliances and home entertainment. A network catalogue sells handsets bundled with airtime, data or a contract. A retailer catalogue sells the box itself. The country overview at South Africa weekly catalogues shows where this hub fits among the others.
The four networks and Cellucity
The Vodacom catalogue sits with a company that is majority owned by Vodafone. Its search queries are mostly practical: the PDF, the 2026 edition and opening hours. We found that Vodacom World lists weekday hours of 08:30 to 17:30 and Saturday 09:00 to 17:00, while its Sunday pages disagree, so ring ahead before you drive.
The MTN specials catalogue belongs to a group with more than 307 million customers across 16 African markets, according to its 2025 results as reported by EWN. The edition we hold runs from 7 October to 8 November 2026 and is 24 pages long, which is a reminder that network catalogues often run for a month, not a week. People searching for it want iPhone offers in particular.
Telkom deals, from a JSE-listed company based in Centurion that sells phones and fixed wifi; shoppers search "telkom specials on phones" and "telkom specials on wifi" separately. Its Plug'd offer for 18 to 24 year olds is registered through the MyTelkom app. The Cell C catalogue covers a network that roams on MTN for prepaid and on Vodacom for postpaid, and the company is majority held by JSE-listed Blu Label Unlimited. You can manage an account through the Cell C app, the *147# code or its WhatsApp bot.
Cellucity deals are different again: it is a retailer that sells across networks, and it lists 34 stores on its about-us page. Its official page lists payment options including Payflex, LayUp, MobiCred, Happy Pay, FASTA, PayJoy and Easy2Own, and it offers a seven-day cooling-off period on non-defective items. Queries such as "cellucity iphone deals" and "cellucity contract deals" show what people expect to find.
The appliance retailers
The HiFi Corp catalogue is a Pepkor-group retailer, and its +more app is shared with other Pepkor retailers. Delivery takes two to five working days, click and collect is free subject to stock, and the returns terms ask for the original receipt and packaging, with a handling fee that can apply. Shoppers search for "hifi corp catalogue 2026 with prices", but our listings carry no prices, so use the catalogue for the offer, then confirm the price with the shop.
Hirsch's appliance specials come from a Durban retailer founded in 1979. It states that it price-matches, subject to its terms and conditions, delivers countrywide and collects an old unit within 50 km. Its loyalty offering is points-based, and the site carries UCount Rewards and Discovery Miles logos. Search queries here lean towards fridges and appliances, such as "hirsch fridges catalogue", which places it closer to a home-appliance specialist than a phone shop.
Rights that apply whichever you pick
The Consumer Protection Act works in your favour for electronics. Section 56 gives you six months to return goods that are defective, at the supplier's risk and expense, and a store's shorter damage window cannot override it. EWN reported this year on a case in which a retailer refused a return after 35 days and then reversed after a journalist stepped in. Several store notes in this hub say the same, for example Vodacom and MTN, where the six-month rule was the only returns policy we could confirm. Changing your mind is a separate matter: unless the goods are defective, you can return them only if the store has a change-of-mind policy, and you must keep to its terms. Online purchases from retailers may also carry a seven-day cooling-off period under the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, according to a consumer ombud guide.
Reading a phone-deal catalogue carefully
- Check whether the headline is the handset, the contract or the airtime bundle. They are three different purchases.
- Look at the validity window; MTN's edition covers several weeks.
- If a deal looks too good, pricing watchdogs warn that retailers can raise prices ahead of big sale events and then advertise a discount that only restores the old price. Misleading pricing is called bait marketing, and section 30 of the Act makes it illegal.
- Photograph the receipt and keep the box until you are sure the device works.
Where the questions come from
ICASA's sector report, covered by ITWeb, put mobile cellular subscriptions at 103 million in 2021, so the network catalogues are written for a very large audience. The suggested searches say a lot. People ask whether Vodacom is open on Sundays and public holidays, whether it is open on Christmas Day or Good Friday, and which contract phone is best. They also search by network name plus "catalogue", "catalogue pdf" and the year. Christmas Day falls on a Friday this year. We cannot tell you which branches will open, so check your nearest store directly.
If you want to compare what else is advertised this week, the supermarket catalogue hub covers groceries, and the Home and Garden hub includes furniture and appliance retailers that overlap with HiFi Corp and Hirsch's.
