The weekly catalogue, Australian style
In Australia the word is catalogue, and the habit is weekly. Supermarkets turn their specials over on a Wednesday, big retailers run sale catalogues that change with the season, and plenty of shoppers still flick through a PDF on the phone before they decide where to spend the Saturday. AdsSOS collects those catalogues so you can find the current one without hunting through apps. We do not list products or prices, just the catalogues and what each retailer says about hours, rewards and returns.
Who sits at the top
The grocery market is led by Woolworths and Coles, with Aldi in third place, according to the competition regulator's supermarkets inquiry. Next to them are the independents supplied by Metcash. IGA stores is the best known, with Foodland stores strong in South Australia, and Foodworks stores runs its own Wednesday to Tuesday cycle. Warehouse shopping has a different logic: Costco stores is a membership warehouse, with a Gold Star and an Executive tier. Browse the full grocery group in the Supermarkets hub.
Department stores and discount
Kmart stores and Bunnings Warehouse belong to Wesfarmers, and both are linked to the OnePass subscription. Big W is part of the Woolworths Group, and its toy sale is one of the most searched catalogue events of the year, with shoppers asking when it ends. Myer stores is the traditional department store, with a free MYER one program and a price match policy that asks you to speak up before you buy. Kmart's returns period is 60 days, longer for OnePass members, though a receipt is needed.
Tools, tech and the hardware aisle
Electronics shoppers choose between JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys and Harvey Norman, and the difference is often the price promise. The Good Guys uses a Price Beat, Harvey Norman a Price Guarantee, and JB Hi-Fi has a free JB Perks program. The Good Guys has belonged to JB Hi-Fi since 2016. For home projects, Mitre 10 stores offers independently owned stores backed by Metcash, and its Mighty Rewards program is free for adults. Open the Electronics hub or the Home and Garden hub to compare the rest of each group.
Beauty and bottle shops
Not every catalogue lives in a shopping centre. Nutrimetics stores sells through consultants and online, owned by New Image Group since July 2022, and people search for its catalogue by year. Cellarbrations stores is a bottle shop banner whose independent owners set their own hours under state liquor rules. Both show how a catalogue can be a sales tool rather than a shop window.
Words you will see
- Specials: the running weekly offers. Half price is the headline most people look for.
- Catalogue: the printed or PDF booklet. We never call it a circular.
- Price beat or price match: a promise to meet or better a competitor, always with conditions.
- Click and collect: order online and pick up in store, usually store-dependent.
- Special Buys: Aldi's non-food offers, which land mid-week and on Saturday.
The calendar and the rules
Easter and Anzac Day change opening hours in a different way in each state: Good Friday is a closed day for non-exempt shops in New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia and a restricted day in Victoria and Queensland, while Anzac Day morning is restricted in New South Wales and Victoria, according to the Australian Retailers Association. Big W's toy sale is the one seasonal catalogue event our searches show shoppers tracking by end date. Sunday trading exists almost everywhere, but hours are set by shop, and Foodland staff in South Australia must voluntarily agree to Sunday and public holiday work.
Consumer law is the same across the country. Faulty goods get a remedy, while a change of mind depends on the store's own policy. For example, Costco allows refunds for change of mind with some exceptions, and Harvey Norman currently says it has none online. Check the individual store pages before you rely on a return.
How to use the site
Pick a category hub, open the store page, and follow the weekly catalogue. Most retailers here publish a new set each Wednesday, so we refresh at the start of the week. If the search you typed was something like this week or next week, the store page is the quickest route.
