Sobeys in a few quick answers

Stellarton, Nova Scotia, is where this one begins. Wikipedia says John W. Sobey started a meat delivery service there in 1907, and his son Frank opened the first supermarket in New Glasgow in 1946. The company expanded across Atlantic Canada, entered southern Ontario in the 1980s, and in 1998 bought the Oshawa Group, owner of the IGA franchise, which made it the country's second-largest grocer. Sobeys is a wholly owned subsidiary of Empire Company Limited, headquartered in Stellarton, and the Wikipedia article for Empire says the group owns, affiliates or franchises more than 1,500 stores. If you were wondering "sobeys is owned by" whom, that is the answer. The same families of searches ask whether Sobeys owns Farm Boy, Safeway or FreshCo, and the banner list in Wikipedia says yes to all three.

Those sister banners are covered here too: see the Safeway weekly flyer and the FreshCo weekly flyer this week, or browse the Canada supermarkets flyers hub for the whole field.

Sobeys flyer this week: an odd three-page edition

Look at our listing and one thing stands out. The edition dated October 22 to October 28, 2026 shows only 3 pages, while the previous one, October 15 to October 21, 2026, had 22. Catalogue start dates differ between editions, so rely on the validity dates printed on each edition rather than on a fixed weekday. Both begin on a Thursday, and a "when does sobeys flyer start" search returns exactly that kind of question. Open the scans on our Sobeys flyer this week page.

Scene+ and the end of Air Miles at Sobeys

Wikipedia's Sobeys entry reports Club Sobeys from the 1990s to 2015, then Air Miles from 2015 to 2022, then Scene+. Rewards Canada dates the Atlantic launch to August 11, 2022 and lists banners in the programme including Sobeys, IGA, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo, Voilà, Thrifty Foods and others. There is no base earn rate. Points come from:

Wikipedia's Scene+ page says points are generally worth one cent, so 1,000 points is about ten dollars, and the programme has more than ten million members. Redemption values can differ by offer.

Does Sobeys price match? Verified Prices explained

Spring Financial's roundup says Sobeys does not price match and instead focuses on low prices on popular items plus weekly sales. What the chain does run is Verified Prices. According to the Sobeys page seen in search results, if a product with the Verified Prices icon in the flyer is cheaper at a selected competing supermarket, you get the difference automatically as Scene+ points, provided you are a member and show your card during the transaction. No cash is paid, only brick-and-mortar competitors count, and the competitors named there are in Atlantic Canada. Return windows, refund methods and price-adjustment rules are not identical across stores or channels. Ask the branch for the current terms and hold on to your receipt.

Voilà delivery: where it stands

"Does sobeys deliver groceries" is among the suggestions. Sobeys' online arm is Voilà, launched in June 2020 and built with Ocado's robotic fulfillment, per Wikipedia. A January 2026 Canadian Press report, carried by Barchart, says Empire is closing Voilà facilities in Alberta and pausing the Vancouver-area expansion after a C$750 million writedown, while Ontario and Quebec carry on and DoorDash same-day delivery was announced. We have no newer report, so check the Voilà site for your postal code.

Sobeys hours, Sundays and holidays

Hours belong to each store. Provincial rules still differ. The Retail Council of Canada says most Nova Scotia retailers may not open on days such as New Year's Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Canada Day, Labour Day, Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Boxing Day; Victoria Day and Easter Monday are not covered. In Manitoba, restrictions were lifted on December 10, 2020 except for Remembrance Day mornings, and in Ontario many municipalities allow holiday opening by by-law. Trading rules are one reason the "sobeys hours sunday" query exists. The Canada flyers hub and the Walmart Canada flyer this week are handy for a comparison.
