A small hub with three very different shops
Electronics is the smallest of our Canadian hubs, and it is worth being plain about why. We scan flyers from three retailers here: Best Buy, Canada Computers and Visions. They overlap on televisions, laptops and phones, but they are built differently. Best Buy is a national big-box chain, Canada Computers began as a single shop in Kingston, Ontario in 1991 and is best known for computers, and Visions started in Calgary in 1981 and counts 43 stores across five provinces according to a store-locator listing from 21 October 2026. Department stores and warehouse clubs also sell electronics, but they live in the Discount and General Merchandise flyers hub.
Best Buy
Most Canadians will start with Best Buy flyer. The searches people type show the pattern: "this week", "next week", "Black Friday" and "Boxing Day". The chain has a long Canadian history: Best Buy bought the British Columbia chain Future Shop in 2001, opened its first Canadian Best Buy-branded store in Mississauga in September 2002, and in 2015 closed Future Shop, converting 65 of its 131 locations. On price, Best Buy publishes a Low Price Guarantee that lasts 30 days, and the page notes a 60-day window with a My Best Buy account for a limited time. NerdWallet's Canadian guide describes Best Buy as matching online, in-store or printed prices before you buy, and refunding a price drop within 30 days with a receipt. Returns run 30 days, but only 15 days for cellular and wireless devices, which is the detail people forget when they buy a phone. The free My Best Buy account is separate from the paid membership. On Sundays, the Toronto Bay and Dundas store page shows 11:00 to 19:00, so check your own branch.
Canada Computers
Canada Computers flyer is the one to open if you are building or upgrading a desktop. The company says it has 42 stores, mostly in Ontario, with others in British Columbia, Quebec and Nova Scotia as of a 2019 breakdown. Its official pricing page states that Canada Computers is "temporarily suspending Price Match until further notice". It separately offers Price Protection: if the store lowers its price within 15 days of your purchase, it refunds the difference. Promotional prices such as limited-time offers, door crashers, clearance and instant rebates are excluded, and the page says the terms can change without notice. That matters, because Google Suggest shows people asking whether Canada Computers price matches Amazon or Newegg. The official answer is the page above, so read it on the day you buy.
Visions
Visions flyer draws searches that mention Calgary and Winnipeg specifically. We could not open a store policy page for it, but ASUS Canada's online price-match programme lists Visions, Best Buy Canada and Canada Computers among its eligible comparison retailers, alongside Amazon.ca, Costco.ca, Memory Express, Staples.ca, Walmart and London Drugs. The conditions are strict: the competitor must ship and sell the item itself (no marketplace sellers), the product must be new and match the ASUS model and part number exactly, the listing must be in stock, only the pre-tax amount counts, and the request must come within 30 days of the order invoice, one request per order.
How the three differ in practice
- Policy clarity. Best Buy states its guarantee and return windows. Canada Computers says price matching is currently suspended. Visions leaves it to the store.
- Typical shopper. Best Buy is the national generalist; Canada Computers is the PC-parts name; Visions is the smaller regional chain.
- Coverage. Store counts differ widely, with about 42 at Canada Computers and 43 at Visions, so check that a branch is near you.
Seasonality: Black Friday and Boxing Day
Electronics flyers follow the calendar more closely than groceries do. The most common electronics queries in our data are Black Friday and Boxing Day, for all three banners. Many people ask when these flyers come out, and Google shows "when do Black Friday flyers come out Canada" as a real question. We list editions as soon as they are scanned. Provincial rules matter on Boxing Day too: the Retail Council of Canada lists it among the days when most Nova Scotia retailers are not allowed to open, while its pages for Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia do not list Boxing Day as a closing day.
Reading a flyer without being fooled
The Competition Bureau says it is illegal to advertise fake discounts by promoting a made-up regular price: a regular price is valid if more than 50 percent of sales were at that price or higher, usually within a year of the promotion, or if the item was offered in good faith at that price for a substantial period. The Act has also explicitly addressed drip pricing since 23 June 2022, meaning advertising a price that leaves out mandatory fixed fees other than government charges such as sales tax. Good flyers state conditions in small type. Look for limited-time labels, open-box notes and exclusions on price matching, and compare the same model number across the three stores before assuming a sale is the lowest.
A short checklist
- Match model numbers, not just brand and screen size.
- Check return windows for phones and wireless devices.
- Ask whether the guarantee covers the online price or only another store's flyer.
- Read the Sunday hours for your branch.
