FoodMaxx: the bag-your-own California grocer
Quick orientation before the details. FoodMaxx is a warehouse-style, budget grocery banner in Northern and Central California, run by the Save Mart Companies of Modesto. Trade coverage from August 2023 calls it a "nonconventional" grocery store that keeps costs down by buying in bulk, stocking shelves straight from delivery trucks and having shoppers bag their own groceries. When that article ran, a new Carmichael store brought the banner to 54 locations. So pack some reusable bags.
Save Mart itself is now owned by Canada's Jim Pattison Group, which bought it in 2024 after Kingswood Capital held it from 2022, according to Wikipedia. Save Mart counts about 194 stores across its Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx banners. Curious about the sister banner? Our Lucky Supermarkets weekly ad covers it.
The parent dates to 1952, when Michael Piccinini and Nicholas Tocco started it in Modesto. Wikipedia lists its footprint as northern and central California plus northern Nevada, and its store brands include Sunny Select and Market Essentials. FoodMaxx is the stripped-down member of the family; the Save Mart and Lucky banners are described as full-service grocery stores with produce, bakery and deli counters.
The FoodMaxx weekly ad, two weeks at a time
This one's different from most. The edition on AdsSOS right now is only two pages, but it spans two weeks: October 21 through November 3, 2026. That tells you something about how this chain advertises. Rather than a fat weekly circular, it can post a short, long-running ad. We don't have enough history to tell you a usual start day, so check the dates on the scan.
On the official site, the homepage invites you to "view weekly ad for your store," which means the ad changes with your location. Autocomplete shows people searching by city: San Jose, Fresno, Sacramento, Modesto, Concord and Santa Maria. Want other chains? The US weekly ads hub has them.
FoodMaxx rewards: how MAXXimizers work
If you've typed "foodmaxx rewards" or "foodmaxx rewards login," you were probably looking for MAXXimizers. The homepage describes member-only offers and digital coupons. You clip them to your account, then type your phone number in at checkout to redeem them. No plastic card in the pitch.
Do you have to join to get advertised prices? A 2022 trade article on Save Mart's banners described only a video-game rewards promotion, not a general loyalty program.
Delivery and pickup promos
When we looked, the homepage advertised $0 delivery on orders of $35 or more, through shop.foodmaxx.com only, and a first-three-pickup-orders deal on $100 baskets, both with promo codes. Promos rotate, so read the current terms on the site.
Does FoodMaxx take EBT, Apple Pay or sell gift cards?
Three of the top autocomplete questions get an answer here. EBT: the chain's SNAP page says all FoodMaxx locations accept EBT cards in store and online through Instacart, though the page heading says EBT cash is in stores only. Online, you add the card in your Instacart account and pick SNAP at checkout, and delivery fees need another payment method. Gift cards: the site has a gift-card shop. Apple Pay and tap to pay: the pages we read don't say, so check at the register.
FoodMaxx hours, Thanksgiving and Christmas
Every location sets its own schedule. The Sacramento store on Florin Road lists 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, Sunday included. Ask before you make a special trip on a holiday: people search "foodmaxx hours thanksgiving," "christmas eve" and "4th of july" constantly. The hours a branch keeps, and whether it opens on holidays, depend on its location and on local regulations. Shoppers are advised to check in-store signage or local branch postings for location-specific schedules.
Returns and price matching
Searches for the FoodMaxx return policy and price match turn up little of use. The conditions for returning or exchanging goods, and for any price-matching promise, are decided by the retailer within the limits of local consumer law. Read the conditions at the till or on the receipt, and keep proof of purchase. If you need to return something, keep the receipt and talk to the store manager. As a warehouse-style grocer, FoodMaxx leans on lower shelf prices rather than matching competitors, but that is our reading, not a stated rule.
