Acme for U: points, digital coupons and the "just for U" habit

Pulling together what the official pages said in search results, here's how it works. You earn one point per whole dollar on eligible grocery and pharmacy purchases, gift cards earn more, and you have to enter your registered phone number or scan your member card at the register. Points turn into rewards in 100-point steps, and anything under 100 expires at the end of the month.

• Digital coupons: clip them in the app or online, and they apply automatically when you enter your phone number at checkout.
• Monthly free item: members can add a free-item offer once a month.
• Birthday treat: add your birthday to your account and an offer shows up.
• Gas rewards: redeemable at Albertsons-banner fuel stations and participating partners.

One warning. Different official pages (including older and test versions) disagree on point values, welcome offers and birthday details, so we're skipping dollar figures. Open the live for U page in the app before you plan around a number.

Does Acme price match? Returns and what to ask at the desk

Return windows, refund methods and price-adjustment rules are not identical across stores or channels. Ask the branch for the current terms and hold on to your receipt. What we did see is a line on store pickup pages saying online prices match in-store prices on eligible orders. That is a consistency promise, not a match against competitors.

For a return in person, bring your receipt and ask the customer service desk what's current.

Acme hours, Sunday and Thanksgiving

Acme sends shoppers to its store locator at local.acmemarkets.com for hours, since they vary by location. That's where the real answer to "what time does acme close" and "acme hours sunday" lives. Searches about the pharmacy and about when alcohol sales stop are store-specific too, and state rules differ across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Connecticut and New York.

Holidays are harder. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Thanksgiving roundup from November 2024 said Acme Markets locations would be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., while an older roundup in the same search listed very different hours.

From South Philly to six states: the Acme story

Two Irish immigrants, Samuel Robinson and Robert Crawford, opened the first Acme in South Philadelphia in 1891, according to Wikipedia. Acme merged with four other grocers in 1917 to form American Stores, which Albertsons bought in 1999. After a stretch under SuperValu, Cerberus agreed to buy the chain in 2013, and Albertsons is listed as the parent today. Headquarters are in East Whiteland Township near Malvern, Pennsylvania.

That same article reports 159 stores across Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and the Hudson Valley of New York, and says Acme took over 71 leases from the A&P bankruptcy in 2015. Store counts shift over time, so treat 159 as a snapshot. The chain also sells groceries online with pickup and, in most areas, delivery, and its Drive Up and Go curbside service shows up on local store pages.
