Your Food City weekly ad, plus the ValuCard that goes with it

Food City shoppers tend to do two things before a grocery run: flip through the weekly ad and load coupons. Both happen in the same place. The chain's iPhone app, published under K-VA-T Food Stores, offers clickable weekly ads in list or print view, digital coupons you can sort and filter, and a ValuCard you scan at the register.

The current ad on AdsSOS is a short one, 8 pages, running October 21 through October 27, 2026. We don't have enough weeks on file to say which weekday new ads usually start, so use the dates printed on the scan. It's sourced from the Kimbino feed and points to foodcity.com, which is the K-VA-T chain based in Abingdon, Virginia. For other chains in the area, our US weekly ad directory has the full list.

Who's behind Food City

K-VA-T Food Stores, Inc. is, per Wikipedia, a privately held family and employee-owned company, with roughly 13 percent held through an ESOP. Jack Smith opened a Piggly Wiggly in Grundy, Virginia, in 1955, and the company has grown from there. As of October 2022, the count stood at 153 outlets across Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia, including 132 Food City supermarkets and a handful of Super Dollar Food Centers, plus wine-and-spirits shops and convenience stores. That figure is a few years old.

The newest news we found: in October 2025 the company agreed to take over three Winn-Dixie stores around Birmingham, Alabama (Fultondale, Trussville and Jasper) and convert them to Food City that November. In January 2025 it folded its Fresh n' Low and Cooke's stores into the Food City name.

Food City rewards: ValuCard and Fuel Bucks

Searches like "food city rewards sign up" and "food city rewards card replacement" are really about the ValuCard. According to Food City's own site, as shown in search results, you earn one Fuel Bucks point per dollar on groceries, with extra points on qualifying prescriptions and some gift cards. Here's the math the site gives: 150 Fuel Bucks makes one "Fuel Visit" worth 15 cents a gallon every day, and 300 Fuel Bucks gets you 30 cents a gallon on Wednesdays. You use them at Gas 'N Go.

Digital coupons work the same way. Load one to your ValuCard in the app or on the website and it comes off at checkout automatically. No scissors involved.

A trick for planning the fill-up

Because the Wednesday fuel tier is the richer one, some shoppers time their biggest grocery trip to a Tuesday evening or Wednesday. That's our suggestion, not an official tip.

Does Food City price match, do money orders, or take Apple Pay?

The conditions for returning or exchanging goods, and for any price-matching promise, are decided by the retailer within the limits of local consumer law. Keep your receipt and ask at the customer-service desk before you buy. The app does list curbside pickup and delivery with reserved pickup slots, and a barcode scanner that adds products to a list. For payment and service questions, ask at the customer service desk.

Food City hours, pharmacy and holiday schedules

People type "food city hours sunday," "what time does food city pharmacy close" and "food city hours july 4th" more than almost anything else. Hours differ by store, and so does the pharmacy window. Look up your own location on foodcity.com before you head out, especially around Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Independence Day.

Returns at Food City

Keep your receipt, bring the item back to the customer service desk and ask. If you shop mostly store brands, mention that when you ask, in case a guarantee applies.

Where Food City fits among your options

Southeastern shoppers often compare Food City against a few regional names. If you're in the Carolinas or Virginia, the Food Lion weekly ad this week is the obvious comparison. Midwest and Mid-Atlantic readers may prefer the Giant weekly ad or the HyVee weekly ad. Our US supermarket weekly ads page puts all of them side by side, and the Meijer weekly ad this week is there too.
