What time does Star Market close? Start with the Boston stores
Most people landing here want one thing: are the lights on? For the four Boston stores listed on Star Market's own locator, the answer reads like this. Allston and Fenway are open 6 AM to 11 PM every day, The Hub on Causeway is also 6 to 11, and the Prudential store opens an hour later, at 7 AM, and closes at 11 PM. That's the pattern in the city, but stores elsewhere may differ, so check yours before a late-night run. Across the river in Cambridge, Porter Square keeps the longest day we saw, 6 AM to midnight, while Mt Auburn Street runs 6 AM to 11 PM. Neither Cambridge listing mentions a pharmacy, so call ahead if you need a prescription. The locator page lists 21 Star Market locations in all, and the state it links is Massachusetts.
Holiday schedules are a separate matter. The hours a branch keeps, and whether it opens on holidays, depend on its location and on local regulations. Before you plan a trip, read the signage on the door or the posting at the branch itself.
Star Market Weekly Ad: Friday start, short and sweet
The current Star Market Weekly Ad runs from 10/16 to 10/22, 2026, and it begins on a Friday. It's a compact circular at 8 pages. Our listing also carries an Entertaining Guide, 12 pages, tagged for the holiday stretch from 11/28 to 12/31. If you've been hunting for a "star market weekly ad preview," note that we only list what the store has published; an early peek usually shows up on the store's own site first.
Each store listing on starmarket.com links straight to a weekly ad for that location, so choose your store first and the circular will follow.
Star Market rewards: for U, no plastic card
Here's a detail that trips people up. Shaw's and Star Market stopped using physical loyalty cards back in July 2013, and the stores take part in the "just for U" program, which doesn't need a card. The Star Market app listing describes it as clipping digital coupons, tracking reward points and having savings applied at checkout, with rewards earned and redeemed automatically as you shop. Points, digital coupons and delivery services may be offered in some places and not in others. The retailer's own channels show the current terms for your area.
Price match, returns and delivery
The suggestion "does star market price match" is real, and we looked. Policies on returns, refunds and price matching vary by retailer, branch and product type, and local consumer-protection rules apply on top. Ask the branch for the current terms and hold on to your receipt. Ask at the service desk.
On convenience, the Boston locator pages list grocery and same-day delivery, DriveUp and Go pickup at some stores, SNAP EBT for online orders, lottery, gift cards and money transfer. That answers a few of the "does star market do ..." queries: money orders and cash back weren't listed on those pages, though money transfer was. Porter Square's listing also shows Western Union, a Starbucks cafe and a Boar's Head deli, and the Mt Auburn store has a Belmont Savings Bank branch inside. Services differ by store, for instance Fenway skips the salad bar and sushi that Allston and Prudential have.
Who owns Star Market?
Star Market has real Boston roots. Sarkis Mugar, an Armenian immigrant, bought a small grocery in Watertown in 1915 for $800, and the family built it into a local supermarket brand. Jewel Companies of Chicago bought the chain in 1964, Investcorp took it in 1994, and Sainsbury's paid $490 million for it in 1999. Albertsons picked up the Sainsbury's American supermarkets in 2004.
Today Star Market and Shaw's run from one headquarters in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, under the same Albertsons umbrella. A 2022 report counted Shaw's at 55 Massachusetts stores and Star Market at 21, mostly in Greater Boston. The pharmacies that once carried the Osco name now use the banner name, Star Market Pharmacy.
If you shop around New England, compare with the Big Y weekly ad this week or the Market Basket weekly ad this week. Back to US supermarkets and weekly ads or the United States weekly ads home.
If Star Market is on your list this week, read the current edition first. Make a short list from the pages you care about and compare it with what you already have at home. Advertised items may sell out or be limited to certain branches; ask the store when in doubt.
